I've updated to the latest on our main server machine, but would like to push updates to the other machines. Whats the best way to do this ? What I tried on one machine but failed: copying all the stuff (.pisi and .delta.pisi) from /var/cache/packages to one of the machines, run pisi index, and then tried to pisi ar /path/to/index ... of course that didn't work (iirc, it wasn't picking up the deltas). Does this require me to have an http server to serve the index, delta and pisi files ? BTW: Performance of KDE4 (limited testing) on Macbook with GeForce was amazing. If the other machines have different versions of packages, they will search for different delta packages. AFAIK, there is not an easy way to achive this. One solution is to download all packages with rsync and serve them on the server machine. Since the old packages are kept in the repository, you may want to use a script to download only new packages. There was a script written by a developer (Doruk?) but I don't know where it is. It probably parses pisi-index.xml.bz2 file and downloads packages it includes. I don't know about the "best way", but you can use many methods to do so. Probably it is best to rsync the repo from packages.pardus.org.tr to a computer in the network, and serve it somehow (http, nfs, sshfs etc. even samba can handle it) and localmount that folder in other computers, and add it as repository. If you rsync stable repo, you will get all the packages plus packages that has ever hit stable, if you rsync test you will only get the latest ones "in test repository", or like Fatih said you can use Doruk's script to handle this. > Does this require me to have an http server to serve the index, delta > and pisi files ? nope -- Onur K???k Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens From dfisek at fisek.com.tr Sun Mar 7 19:28:11 2010 From: dfisek at fisek.com.tr (Doruk Fisek) Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2010 19:28:11 +0200 Subject: [Pardus-devel] Pisi Package Cache In-Reply-To: <201003061346.24411.fatih@pardus.org.tr> References: <79a035421003010912o62895d6dl71bd987f4f9eed94@mail.gmail.com> <201003061346.24411.fatih@pardus.org.tr> Message-ID: <20100307192811.66d72589.dfisek@fisek.com.tr> Sat, 6 Mar 2010 13:46:24 +0200, Fatih A??c? : > want to use a script to download only new packages. Here's the location of the script: http://zzz.fisek.com.tr/files/pardus-local-repo.sh It was a quick-and-dirty script that can be improved (but it does the job). It ignores both old packages and delta packages since when mirroring (in a LAN setting, package size isn't important and delta support doesn't have a substantial gain). So when using a local repo formed by this script, don't forget to turn off delta support in clients (/etc/pisi/pisi.conf -- ignore_delta = True). In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: As far as I know there are still several pieces missing in the puzzle: - There is no Qt .4.6.x in pardus repos. One can however compile it himself using https://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/playground/gokcen/kde44/qt/pspec.xml . There are binary packages for Qt-4.6.1 on http://cekirdek.pardus.org.tr/~gokcen/files/qt-4.6/ and I can provide Qt-4.6.2 on demand. I use it with kde-4.5.3 without problems. But I feel some resistance to general update, as G?k?en Eraslan wrote to me "There is a huge difference between 4.5.3 and 4.6.x, so it would be a risky move to bump in 2009." -Pulseaudio has to be updated to 0.9.21. I already work on it in my playground, it is not finished yet. - Virtuoso is still in the review: https://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/playground/review/server/database/virtuoso - I expect other packages has to be updated. Unfortunately KDE 4.5.3 and KDE 4.4.x packages are AFAIK conflicting. See half baked kde 4.4.0 packages in https://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/playground/mete/desktop/kde/base . If anybody is interested, I can provide disk image for virtualbox containing Pardus2009 without any KDE package, updated to latest testing packages and with openbox. Plus some instructions how to set up repo and svn sharing between native and virtual machines. So you can start hacking :-). Unfortunately it is not possible for Pardus 2009 because Pulseaudio >= 0.9.16 requires rtkit for realtime scheduling and rtkit depends on the new polkit-1 which will not be merged to Pardus 2009. Because it breaks a lot of things from the ground to the top. The migration is even not completed in Corporate 2. It's certainly not something that should be done in a stable distribution like 2009. And there's also no reason to switch to pulseaudio 0.9.21 unless some user reports a really serious pulseaudio bug which can't be resolved without switching to >= 0.9.16. I did try it just now with success: pulseaudio-0.9.21 built from my playground (see below), installed, machine rebooted (killing pulseaudio server and starting new one should be sufficient). Pisi works so you can install any software you'd miss (see instructions for /var/cache/pisi/packages sharing). I will periodically send updates to this thread, especially about new packages. If you will have any questions, recommendations, tricks or new packages, please let us know in this thread too. This way the main disk image could stay as intact as possible. create new virtual machine: Machine -> New Next git it name (I use Pardus KDE44 build) ; select Linux; select Linux 2.6 ; Next give it enough memory (I use 1024MB or more, default 256MB may not be sufficient) ; Next Use existing hard disk ; select pardus-kde44-build.vdi ; Next Finish Change setting for the newly created virtual machine: Machine -> Settings System -> Motherboard tab: Boot Order: unselect Floppy and CD/DVD ROM; move Hard Disk to first position System -> Acceleration Select both if your hardware supports it (should be set automatically) Display -> Video: Enable 3D Acceleration ; optionally increase video memory (not necessary for 1024x768 24bpp Storage Add second disk, the newly created build-tmp.vdi Remove floppy controller (I reccomend to add SATA controller and put both hard disks there: Pardus-kde44-build.vdi on Slot "SATA Port 0" build-tmp.vdi on Slot "SATA Port 1" it will be faster) Network -> Adapter 1 Enable Netwok Adapter Attached to "Bridged adapter" (Note: I use Advanced -> Adapter Type "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)") Network -> Adapter 2 Enable Netwok Adapter Attached to "Host-only Adapter" Shared Folders: create two shares, see below, can be done later Now you are ready to run it. on first run do as root create new partition on empty drive /dev/sdb (over entire disk) format the partition to ext4 using parameter -m 0 mount it to build (see /etc/fstab) please note there is small mistake in /etc/fstab : LABEL=PARDUS_ROOT should be LABEL=PardusKDE44 but it boots ok even with this mistake there are two users created (username : password): root : toor pardus : pardus if you log in as pardus, you can run xinit /usr/bin/openbox-session there is /home/pardus/.config/openbox/autostart.sh which starts applications for the session please note that /tmp is in ramdisk installed is: juffed editor arora web browser urxvt terminal openbox obconf extra packages not in repositories: qt-4.6.2 pulseaudio-0.9.21 Sharing folders (directories) between virtual and native ======================================================== I use this setup on native: I have extra partition mounted in /pardus /var/cache/pisi/archives is symlinked to /pardus/cache/pisi/archives /var/cache/pisi/packages is symlinked to /pardus/cache/pisi/packages all my pardus svn checkouts are on subdirectories on /pardus/svn I use this setup on virtual: there are two two shared folders: pisi : /pardus/cache/pisi svn : /pardus/svn and in virtual mounted as mount.vboxsf pisi /pardus/cache mount vboxsf svn /pardus/svn and there is modified /etc/pisi/pisi.conf This way I'm not forced to upload *.pisi twice when updating machines.
