Things are more less OK, except a small glitch. The xrdp applicaiton can't load the libvnc.so library when it needs and displays an error message about this issue. Libraries are placed in /usr/lib/xrdp Steps that are happening, while pisi is creating the package: 1) Download xrdp 0.4.1 from sourceforge 2) apply suse patches (xrdp-0.4.1..48f00f.diff) obtained from within http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/hfiguiere:/Factory/openSUSE_11.1/src/xrdp-0.4.1-74.1.src.rpm , which enables the release package for autotools. 3) apply configure.ac section of the patch from xrdp-NOMAD.diff obtained from the same source rpm for correcting /usr/etc and /usr/var kind of directory mappings 4) run bootstrap 5) configure with the following parameters: ./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share --sysconfdir=/etc --libexecdir=/usr/libexec --disable-static --localstatedir=/var 6) run make without any special parameters. See similar lines to the following during compilation and linking: ..... /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -mtune=generic -march=i686 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fstack-protector -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -Wl,-O1 -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,--hash-style=gnu -o libvnc.la -rpath /usr/lib/xrdp/ vnc.lo ../common/libcommon.la i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -shared .libs/vnc.o -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/var/pisi/xrdp-0.4.1-1/work/xrdp-0.4.1/common/.libs -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/xrdp/ ../common/.libs/libcommon.so -mtune=generic -march=i686 -Wl,-O1 -Wl,-z -Wl,relro -Wl,--hash-style=gnu -Wl,-soname -Wl,libvnc.so.0 -o .libs/libvnc.so.0.0.0 (cd .libs && rm -f libvnc.so.0 && ln -s libvnc.so.0.0.0 libvnc.so.0) .... thus clearly seeing -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/xrdp/ parameters for runtime linking for libvnc.so 7) make install without any special parameters 8) run xrdp.sh start script 9) xrdp runs, connection OK, login screen comes and I try to login with sesman-Xvnc method, described as follows in the xrdp.ini file: [xrdp1] name=sesman-Xvnc lib=libvnc.so username=ask password=ask ip=127.0.0.1 port=-1 10) username/password authenticates, session starts (I can hear the login sounds on localhost system), but xrdp complains not being able to load libvnc.so in the onscreen log 11) check with ps axu that the user really logged in, confirmed. 12) if I change the lib=libvnc.so to lib=/usr/lib/xrdp/libvnc.so then things start to work. The binary repo you use for creating a CD install is not dependent on your system Ideally you can use Pardus 2009 repository and Pardusman-KDE4 to build a Pardus 2009 iso - but be warned that : a) this scenario is not well tested, b) Pardus 2009 branch is a development branch, so packages and design decisions change rapidly these days. I suggest you use Pardus 2008 repo and /trunk/pardusman branch till you understand the basics of image creation and Pardus' package / repo structure. Pardus 2009 repo and new pardusman will become much more stable soon, so after understanding these basics you can start to use Pardus 2009 as your system and its repos and tools for your project.. -- Happy hacking; Ekin Meroglu ... did i listen to pop music because i was miserable, or was i miserable because i listened to pop music?... - rob [nick hornby / hi fi] From ozan at pardus.org.tr Tue May 12 19:09:00 2009 From: ozan at pardus.org.tr (=?UTF-8?B?T3phbiDDh2HEn2xheWFu?=) Date: Tue, 12 May 2009 19:09:00 +0300 Subject: [Pardus-devel] PardusMan In-Reply-To: <7b125e640905120902s698c4ae4pd5e39ce86a94aefb@mail.gmail.com> References: <7b125e640905120429u7bf98819if98309f83d1bac1f@mail.gmail.com> <7b125e640905120535i3611c5e4l40822ee832e5c9ad@mail.gmail.com> <200905121721.37671.ekin@pardus.org.tr> <7b125e640905120750k3fff336u30f851c0239bf61e@mail.gmail.com> <4A099982.8000501@pardus.org.tr> <7b125e640905120854i4541fc4fm5b9a3b86f3103287@mail.gmail.com> <7b125e640905120902s698c4ae4pd5e39ce86a94aefb@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <4A099F1C.6070509@pardus.org.tr> Sarath Lakshman wrote: > Hi, > > > >>> So you are using Pardus 2009? Pardus 2009 won't contain KDE3 and Qt3 so pardusman is re-written for KDE4 with PyQt4. The python in Pardus 2009 repository is 2.6 and the os module needs /dev/urandom for correctly working. I think that's why you're having this exception during image creation out of the 2009 repository. The stable repo holds all the different versions of the same software, it's kind of useless to mirror via rsync. I had urged the system administrators at the time to create a seperate rsync repo which includes only the latest versions of the software for rsync mirroring but to no avail. I had written a script here that uses wget to mirror only the latest versions of a repo. It's not great, could be more optimized but it does the work nevertheless. http://zzz.fisek.com.tr/files/pardus-local-repo.sh Hope it helps. Is it allowed to merge my package myself? You are free to merge your packages on your own. On the "crash test developement cycle" we give full access to stable repo not to slow down things. Just be careful as the component layout has changed in 2009. Modify your packages in 2009/devel, svn copy them 2009/stable. No Qt3 and Kde3 packages are to be merged for now, if you have a package depending on them, prefer to enable / switch to Qt4 and KDE4 before merging. > 2. It is allowed as long as you can convince why they should go to stable repo (it is not a harsh stage btw, be comfortable about it :). Just give us a list in this mailing list, tell us why and we shall talk about it. We are also planning to merge some packages from contrib to pardus and vice versa but there is no list / serious discussion about it yet. Though there will be one soon. Contrib repo is almost ready, last bits of the component changes are being discussed. Check here [1] to see if you find any trouble in the new layout. After we move to new component hierarchy and the contrib farm is setup contrib will be good to go. Most of below mentioned ones are not mine, but they are valuable. I would like to know your opinion - generally or particularly. Please add more packages if you think they should be also moved. Paths are relative to contrib/devel. * applications/editors/juffed fast and simple text editor with highlighting (Qt4 + QScintilla), I use it daily * applications/editors/zile fast console text editor resembling emacs (ncurses), I use it daily. * desktop/kde4/krusader-kde4 very valuable file manager (KDE4), stable. 2009 version ready at playground/dast/2009/desktop/misc/krusader * desktop/kde4/k9copy-kde4 all current KDE4 packages could go 2009, couldn't they? Has some extra dependencies in contrib, though. * desktop/fluxbox/* in my opinion there should be at least one "lightweight" window manager in 2009. Valuable for heavy development on older machines. Though I'd preffer the component to be renamed to desktop/lightweight as there could come more (openbox, icewm, ...) * applications/util/ddrescue your last hope to save data from failing disk * applications/multimedia/smplayer very good Qt4 mplayer frontend. I know there is KMplayer, but ... * applications/network/psi the only Qt4 jabber client I know which is able to connect through http proxy * applications/network/fatrat nice downloader (Qt4) * applications/network/arora Qt4 webkit web browser * applications/science/avogadro molecular editor, very nice. The package seems unmaintained, I'll takeover it. * applications/science/speedcrunch speecdrunch replaced kcalc in kubuntu * applications/archive/dar best long-time archiver I've ever used. Incremental backups, per file compression, encryption. Windows version available too. Well ... as far as I know it is not possible. Debian package descriptions are just text files and they are presented "as-is". OTOH You can format the text inside tag as you wish, but Package Manager ignores it. Pardus pspec.xml is xml file and it ignores all formating. Special html-like formating tags are not implemented. It would require some work on pisi [1] itself. Yes that's right, XML ist only for representing data. But my idea is that we can use "indicators" in the description text \n for line break and \t for tabulators ... We are only able to maintain one desktop environment at a time "properly". Since we don't support more than one desktop environments officially (for now) we should stick to KDE only in pardus repositories (for now). Windows version available too. no experience. + i recommend these ones: * htop : top alternative using ncurses. many features, shiny colors etc. * filezilla : advanced FTP client. We dont have any like this one that has many features. * weechat : well maintained and fully loaded IRC client, has plugins/DCC etc . support. It is a must IMO. * stardict : Fatih's suggestion. ack from me too. * stardict-essential-turkish : turkish dicts for stardict. it's a must. * mpd : music player daemon. we dont have any on stable. well maintained. * mpc : run and dismiss like console based mpd client. maintained by mpd team, therefore well maintained. needed by most of the mpd clients. * ncmpc/ncmpcpp : curses based mpd clients. first one is maintained by mpd team. -- H. It has no extra dependencies. The package is clean (with no dirty hacks) and I've been maintaining it for nearly 2.5 years. If one of them is > deprecated, could be commits to it blocked or could it be removed > completely? > In the old days, pardus/devel and the contrib/devel was the main development repositories for updating/bumping packages before merging them to the stable repositories. Then we decided to fork off a devel/ subdirectory for each of our version leading to the following hierarchy: pardus/ 2008/ devel/ stable/ 2009/ devel/ stable/ devel/ * contrib/ 2008/ devel/ stable/ devel/ ** So the one marked with * is obsoleted, all development for Pardus 2008 repository is done in pardus/2008/devel. Then you request a merge by sending an e-mail to the stable@ mailing list. The other one marked with ** will be obsoleted when 2009/ is created under contrib. So all development for Contrib 2008 repository is done in contrib/2008/devel and then you merge your changes directly to contrib/2008/stable *without* requesting a merge through the stable@ mailing list. contrib/devel can now be considered the devel/ for the upcoming contrib/2009 repository. But since the 2009/ directory is still not created for contrib, the ** directory should be used for maintenance of contrib packages for 2009. There are two main repositories officially maintained by Pardus Team, Pardus Repository and the Contrib Repository. Thanks to Ozan, this mail explains the repository layout in details: http://lists.pardus.org.tr/pardus-devel/2009-May/000986.html Pardus-2009 Alpha[1] has been released less than 12 hours ago, because of this, the core developer team was pretty busy in making last changes to Alpha. I'm sure Bahadır , the maintainer of Django package, will merge it to 2009 as soon as he finds time. Best Wishes!.. Message-ID: <95c82f3c0905291618g7846d60byd6b350be899fa123@mail.gmail.com> Hello, there are rumors around the web, that TASMA will no longer exist in Pardus 2009. I of course know that TASMA is a fork of KDE's "System Settings"-tool with additional extensions like the Pardus display-manager, boot-manager, user-manager, disk-manager, etc. ... But what I mean ist, that TASMA became around the years a brand of Pardus GNU/Linux - like YAST in Suse or MCC in Mandriva ... And so I think we should continue using _our_ own toll TASMA. An other Point why to keep TASMA, is that the design concept behind TASMA is really user friendly. Many users of KDE 4 doen't like the new design of its "System Settings"-tool (kcontrol). The kcontrol of KDE 4 is more Kubuntu orientated :-/ TASMA has a more clearer design, than the kcontrol of KDE 4 - we should keep maintaining our "own" product named TASMA ... ;-) I hope you can give me more precise answer. I think we should still call it as Tasma - Tasma becomes a *brand of Pardus GNU/Linux* like Yast in Suse Linux. But it is more important, that we use again only one configurations tool and not two. Many other Linux distributions are having a system settings tool like Yast in Suse or MCC in Mandriva - but all of these tools are not integrated into KDE like Tasma. Today theses Linux distributions still have two separate tools: Kcontrol of KDE and their own settings tool (Yast, MCC) - that's not good and it is confusing the enduser (!). It is important to use only one tool as a place for all settings. Tasma is for this idea a good exemplary. In other words Tasma is like the "System settings" of MS Windows for GNU/Linux ... Hope you understand, what I mean. -- Gürkan Zengin _____________________________________________________ German Pardus Linux Community - PardusUser.de ! http://www.pardususer.de/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Hmm at this point you're right. It is easier for us, if our new "systems settings" tool will developed by KDE. As I understood we will have still only _one tool_ for system settings/configurations - right ? -- Gürkan Zengin _____________________________________________________ German Pardus Linux Community - PardusUser.de ! http://www.pardususer.de/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Maybe just my opinion or idea.. On the one hand i think it would be nice to keep "Tasma" as a cool tool for easy system administration, and to have some top product which could differentiate this distro, however, I think most important, for me at least is: As long as i can easily find andeasyly usethese tools, i don't mind if it is called Tasma or if i find it as easy as well in the standart KDE-tool. And from a programmer's point of view i think it is very correct to avoid duplication of same funtions (wich besides might mean confusion for the end user), so from this point of view include it into the KDE-Standart tool seems ok !! But maybe there could be a Theme/Style/CSS applied to the KDE-Control center to give it the "feel" of Tasma ? greetings, cok selamlar, Klemens Häckel p.s.
